Magni

('Mighty') was the son of Thor, the Germanic thunder god, and the giantess Jarnsaxa, and brother of Modi. After his duel with Hrungnir, the strongest of the frost giants, Thor fell wounded to the ground, as fragments of whetstone had lodged in his head. He was also unable to move because one of Hrungnir's lifeless legs pinned him to the ground. Even worse, Thor wetted himself when he noticed the clay giant Mist Calf. Insult was nearly added to injury when, at the age of three years, Magni proved strong enough to free his father Thor, even though none of the gods had been able to shift Hrungnir's leg. 'It's a pity I didn't come sooner, Magni commented. 'If I had met this giant first, he would be fallen to my bare fists.' Although Odin was rather put out by young Magni's intervention, Thor showed his gratitude by giving the young frost giant Hrungnir's magnificent horse, Golden Mane. After Ragnarok, the doom of the gods, Magni and Modi together would inherit Thor's magic hammer, Mjollnir.
