Mokkuralfi

or Mist Calf, was a gigantic clay giant. He was made from the clay bed of a river by frost giants in order to terrify Thor, the thunder god. This occurred just before Thor met Hrungnir, the strongest of the frost giants, in single combat. Mist Calf was animated by the heart of a mare, but it proved inadequate for the task. Though the creature towered into the clouds, it was very slow-moving and its legs were vulnerable to attack. On the day of the duel, Thor killed Hrungnir but wet himself at the sight of Mist Calf. His human servant Thialfi was less impressed, however, and swung his axe at the clay giant's legs. When Mist Calf toppled backwards, his fall shook Jotunheim, the land of the frost giants.
